Happy New Year’s Eve in Squaw Valley

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

We would like to wish everyone a safe and happy New Year’s celebration.  There are a variety of events happening in Squaw Valley tonight, so if you are not too worn out from good ski days then check them out.  Until next year…

Holidays, snow, good ski conditions…what a time to be at Squaw Valley!

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Well, it seems everything has lined up nicely for all this holiday season.  Squaw Valley Ski Resort received a lot of early season snow allowing for a large portion of the mountain to be open for the holidays.  The continued dustings of snow have been a help and certainly keep the spirits high for all involved.  That being said, snow is in the forecast from now thru the new year.  Looks to be a great weekend.

The on mountain experience is the same but new this year with many little chagnes.  The staff all have new color coded uniforms, a huge step from the dark ages.  The Mighty Mite program is continuing to make slight modifications in their organization in order to keep track of it’s hundreds of athletes.  There is a remodeled restaurant up at the Gold Coast mid mountain lodge.  All in all Squaw Valley and all its visitors and long time patrons are full swing for the 09/10 ski season.  Have fun out there!

Beautiful ski conditions in Squaw Valley

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

I am writing to report the weather and snow are wonderful for the upcoming holiday weeks.  The storm that started yesterday with some rain turned to snow and laid a nice layer of fresh snow over the growing base.  The cold temperatures today made the snow nice an dry as long as you stay at the higher elevations.  KT22 was great at the top but about half way down it became powder over frozen chunks, doable but not desirable.  Headwall was windy but nice snow.   What a wonderful start to the winter.

Lawrence Realty Volleyball Team Wins!

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Lawrence Realty has sponsored a volleyball team in the local adult coed volleyball league for almost ten years.  Ron and I play on the team along with other long time volleyball players.  There are two leagues each year, fall and winter and we usually play in both.  We had a great season, only losing two games and coming in first for league play.  The playoffs were this past Wednesday and we were up against the same team we lost to last season in the finals.  This time we won and happily left the gym with smiling faces and the satisfaction of victory.

Squaw Valley has great early ski conditions.

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Last week’s storm really set up Squaw Valley for a great holiday season.  KT22 opened on Monday for blue bird powder skiing.  The cold wind yesterday made the snow wind buffed and superb.  Today’s moisture in the air will help solidify the base.  Now we are ready for more weather.  There are a few days of snow showers in the forecast on weather.com.  We’ll keep our fingers crossed.  In the meantime get your skis and boards ready for some winter fun.

First Day of Mighty Mites

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

Well with all the new snow the Mighty Mite team was cancelled yesterday.  Today with snow falling and the upper mountain scheduled to open, it was a go, with a late start.   The scene at the tree at 10am must of looked like chaos, but actually was very well organized.  With 800 Mighty Mites in the program you have to be.  We dropped off our son, all smiles and ready for his first day with the team.  I was a Mighty Mite coach for 8 seasons and know the first day craze.  I would like to congratulate the staff on what seemed to be a very successful start to the snowy season.  Lawrence Realty continues to be a proud sponsor of the Mighty Mites and wishes them a great year on skis.

It’s snowing in Squaw Valley…

Friday, December 11th, 2009

What a way to wake up, to snow falling outside the window so peacefully collecting.  Snow always looks so serene in the morning light before it has been plowed, shovelled, played in, skiied on, etc.  It seems to have a whole different aura when you are out in it, playing or working.  The snow today was wet, just the type we like for the base snow layers on the mountain.

Tomorrow is the kick off day for many of the youth ski and snowboard teams.  I am sure the coaching staff is ready to see all their smiling faces and take them to get the cob webs out of their ski legs.  We’ll be at the tree first thing tomorrow morning dropping of our little Mighty Mite.  We wish and fun and safe holidays season for all the little skiiers and riders on the mountain.

Squaw Valley Real Estate activity pick up…

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

In the last few weeks we have seen a pick up in real estate activity, both in the housing and condo markets.  Maybe it is the upcoming ski season or the first few storms or a change in attitude in those thinking of buying.  Whatever the reason it is good to see activity in comparison to little or no activity in the last few months.  There are a few new escrows and some properties being negotiated.  The Resort at Squaw Creek is seeing a change in their market as the real low end, bank owned properties are being sold.  We hope to see continued activity in the coming weeks.  Think snow.
